    FAQs

What is the difference between marketing communications and digital marketing?

Marketing communications covers the messages and channels an organization uses to build awareness, reputation and customer relationships. Digital marketing focuses more specifically on connected platforms and online customer activity. A marketing communications program may include digital media, but it also considers advertising, public relations, brand voice and coordination across online and offline channels.

What does integrated marketing communications mean?

Integrated marketing communications means coordinating messages, audiences and channels so that people receive a consistent and purposeful brand experience. It does not require every channel to use identical content. Instead, teams adapt the execution while preserving the central promise, evidence and tone of the campaign.

How do public relations, advertising and media communications work together?

Advertising uses paid placements, public relations builds relationships and earned visibility, and media communications helps shape how information is produced and distributed across platforms. A media communications program helps learners understand these different functions and how they can support one strategy without confusing paid, owned, shared and earned activity.

How is artificial intelligence changing media and marketing communications?

Artificial intelligence (AI) can support research, content adaptation, audience analysis and campaign testing. However, it also creates risks involving misinformation, copyright, bias and loss of brand consistency. Digital communications training should therefore develop critical review as well as awareness of AI tools. Communicators remain responsible for accuracy, disclosure and the effect of a message, so AI-generated content must be reviewed carefully.

What career areas use marketing communications skills?

These skills are relevant to brand, advertising, public relations, content, social media, corporate communications, media planning and campaign management. A marketing communications program can broaden an existing role or provide a foundation for further study. Specialist roles may also require a portfolio, industry experience or platform-specific expertise.
